A.W. Jeffreys (Southampton) Ltd Handicap Chase

Mostly disappointing since finishing second in a bumper last spring, weakening quickly and pulled up in both handicap hurdles in recent months; too soon to write off but switches to fences with something to prove; a first-time hood and tongue-tie combination is also added.

Both wins on heavy, latterly a 2m chase at Leicester in February; creditable third at Plumpton next time but didn't jump well when remote fourth over 2m5f here (good to soft) four weeks ago; on the back of that the cheekpieces he's worn on his last five outings are replaced by a first-time visor.

0-9 over hurdles; did finish second in a 3m Wincanton handicap (good to soft) last month but only sixth back there since; switches to fences in a bid to get straight back on track for leading stable.

Beaten upwards of 43l in three maiden hurdles in Ireland and 19l third on his completed start in points there in the autumn; tough to argue his opening mark looks generous now switching to fences for a new yard.

His 2m2f course success in October was very fortunate (looked held in dispute of third when left to finish alone at the last) but there was no luck involved when returning from a break to land a second chase win at Exeter (2m3f, good) 17 days ago; a 4lb rise shouldn't prevent another bold bid.
